Delicious slow cooker pulled pork rubbed with spices and cooked in root beer and apple juice.  Easy to make and feeds a crowd.

This recipe is so easy to make. Just put everything in the slow cooker and let it cook! No searing beforehand or any kind of prep.

You do however need to let it cook for quite a while, about 8 hours or so on low. Nice and slow so that it just falls apart when you take it out.

I like to do a mixture of root beer and apple juice to cook the pork in.  There are lots of different recipes that have also used Dr. Pepper or Coke to cook in. To be honest I usually use whatever I have in the house already! Although I do prefer the root beer the best!

I also like to use a homemade rub that has a little bit of kick to it.

All that sweet from the root beer and apple juice mixed with the rub spice gives this pork an awesome flavor combination!

Then before serving, you can top it off with your favorite BBQ sauce.

This is my favorite recipe to make when I am hosting a party for any occasion. I cook up the meat beforehand and then on the day of the party just warm it up in a slow cooker with the buns on the side!

I have even made it weeks in advance and then freeze the cooked shredded pork. A day before the party, defrost the meat in the refrigerator and then pop it in the slow cooker for the day of the party. So easy and stress free!

Make sandwiches out of the pork for parties or tastes great on its own with no bun!  If you end up with leftovers this makes super delicious pulled pork nachos or tacos.

Ingredients for Slow Cooker Pulled Pork

4-7 pound pork roast/shoulder/butt

1 can Root Beer

1 cup Apple juice

1 cup BBQ sauce

1 package onion soup dry mix

Pork Rub:

1 Tablespoon brown sugar

1 Tablespoon chili powder

1 Tablespoon cumin

1 teaspoon paprika

1 teaspoon thyme

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

How to make Slow Cooker Pulled Pork

Mix all ingredients for the pork rub together and rub it all over the pork along with the onion soup dry mix.

Slow Cooker Pulled Pork

Place the pork in a slow cooker.

Pour the root beer, apple juice, and BBQ sauce into the slow cooker.

Cook on low for 10 or 11 hours, depending on the size of your pork.

Take the pork out and shred with forks. I like to also peel away any fat pieces that I find.

A little trick to get the pork even tastier is to broil the shredded pork a bit under the broiler in the oven. Save the juices from the slow cooker and serve with some juice poured over the top, or serve with BBQ sauce over the top.

You can choose to make sandwiches with the pork or eat it by itself! I also love to make nachos or tacos out of this recipe!
