Delicious slow cooker baby back ribs, all done in the crock pot! Meat that just falls off the bone, cooked in a homemade BBQ sauce!

These ribs are super easy to make, just a little browning under the broiler and then cooking it in the crock pot in some BBQ sauce for about 4-6 hours. You don’t even have to flip them over, just let them slowly cook!

The homemade BBQ sauce is more of a semi homemade recipe. Basically just take Sweet Baby Rays, regular sauce and Open Pit BBQ sauce and then “doctor it up” with some other ingredients to make it super yummy!

Does anyone else use that phrase?  “Doctor it up”? My mom uses it all the time when she is talking about recipes and making food. It means that she adds ingredients to pre-made food items to make them taste better!

Other ways to cook the slow cooker baby back ribs

This is a great recipe to use all year so you can enjoy ribs not just in the summer! If it is summer, you can sear the ribs on the grill if you choose and then put them in the slow cooker.  If it is not grilling weather, put them under the broiler to sear them just enough before the slow cooker.

These could also be cooked in the oven if you choose! After broiling, just pop the ribs in a big roasting pan with the BBQ sauce, and cook for about 2 hours at 300 degrees.

You can also choose to use your own favorite BBQ sauce in place of our homemade sauce. Play around with the different flavors and find out which is your favorite!

We usually use pork baby back ribs for this recipe, but any kind of ribs would work. I have also thrown in some country spare ribs with the baby backs for some variety!

Baby Back Ribs: Two slabs of ribs is what usually fits in my crockpot. Also any kind of ribs will work in this recipe, not just the baby backs. Country spare ribs and St. Louis style ribs are some others that can be used.

For the sauce:

Ketchup: Added for its sweet tangy flavor.

Water: Thins out the sauce so it’s not too thick.

Open Pit BBQ Sauce: Used for the tangy and smokey flavor it has.

Sweet Baby Rays BBQ Sauce: Used for the sweet and tangy flavor it has.

Worcestershire Sauce: Added for a salty flavor.

Ground Cinnamon and Ground Cloves: Brings a sweet and earthy flavor to the BBQ sauce.

Brown Sugar: Added for its sweet flavor and makes the sauce stick to the ribs.

Sea Salt, Paprika, Onion Powder, Garlic Powder, and Black Pepper: Added for flavor into the sauce.

How to make Slow Cooker Baby Back Ribs

Turn on the broiler in the oven to high. Wrap aluminum foil around a baking sheet or broiler pan. You can either choose to cut the ribs into sections or leave them whole. I cut them up so they fit in the crock pot better. If you are cooking them in the oven, you can leave them whole.
