Ingredients for Apple Crisp
For the Filling:
4-5 medium-sized apples (a mix of sweet and tart varieties, such as Granny Smith and Honey crisp)
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
3/4 teaspoons salt
1/4 cup water
1 tablespoon lemon juice
For the Crumble Topping:
1 1/4 cups flour
1 1/2 cups sugar
2/3 cups butter- slightly softened
How to make Apple Crisp
Preheat Your Oven:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch (or similar size) baking dish with butter.
Prepare the Apple Filling:
Peel, core, and thinly slice the apples. Place them in a large mixing bowl filled with water and 1 tablespoon lemon juice. Let the apples soak for a couple minutes, then drain off the water.
Mix together the cinnamon, salt, and water and add to the sliced apples. Toss everything together until the apples are well coated.
Create the Crumble Topping:
In a separate bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and butter.
Cut in the butter using a pastry cutter, fork, or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Assemble Your Apple Crisp:
Spread the prepared apple filling evenly in the greased baking dish.
Sprinkle the crumble topping over the apples, covering them completely.
Bake to Perfection:
Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apple filling is bubbling around the edges. If the top does not turn brown, broil for 2-3 more minutes to get the top a nice golden brown.
Serve and Enjoy:
Let the apple crisp cool for a few minutes before serving. You can serve it warm on its own or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for an extra treat.
