Light and fluffy whipped bakery style frosting. A subtle vanilla flavor makes it perfect to go with any cakes or cookies!

This whipped frosting is super easy to make and also easy to work with. It is so light and airy that it makes spreading it on cakes super easy!

Other kinds of frosting are so thick that when you go to spread them they start to take some of the cake with it.. And then you have a big disaster! That is why this is my go-to frosting for all my cakes. It also is super simple to make it have cute little peaks all over.

This is also a great frosting to use if you are doing a cake that has a middle frosting part. It is so light and not an overwhelming flavor that it just works!

My favorite by far is chocolate cake with this frosting. This was the standard birthday cake my mom would make for us when we were little. For some reason we always called it Fluff Frosting! Probably because it’s so fluffy!

Here are some more dessert favorites!

Scotch A Roos: A Rice Krispie like treat but made with peanut butter and topped with a chocolate butterscotch mix. With only 6 ingredients these are super easy to make!

Sheet Pan Apple Pie: Homemade apple pie all done in a sheet pan. Made with apples, cinnamon, and a flaky pie crust, this will feed the whole family!

No Bake Cheesecake Squares: A light and fluffy cheesecake topped with crushed graham crackers. A no bake dessert that is fast and delicious!

Peach Cobbler: A peach cobbler recipe that is sweet and easy.  Comes together fast using fresh, canned, or frozen peaches.

Pumpkin Muffins: Light and fluffy, easy pumpkin muffins. A streusel topping makes these taste like they are straight from the bakery.

What’s the difference between this whipped frosting and other frostings?

This frosting is made with powdered sugar and Crisco which gives it that very light texture. Because this has a mix of the Crisco and the butter, it makes it very light and easy to spread on cakes.

Ingredients for Whipped Bakery Frosting

Butter: ( 1 stick) softened at room temperature. Added for creaminess of the frosting.

Crisco: Added for the base of the frosting, will also make the frosting light and fluffy.

Sugar: Gives the frosting a sweet flavor.

Powdered Sugar: Gives the frosting sweet flavor. Dissolves easier in the frosting.

Flour: Thickens up the frosting a little bit.

Milk: Adds creaminess to the frosting.

Vanilla Extract: Adds a hint of vanilla flavor.

How to make Whipped Bakery Frosting

Make sure the butter is nice and soft, not melted, I usually just leave mine out so it reaches room temperature.

VERY IMPORTANT!

You want all your ingredients to be room temperature before you start mixing them all together. The room temperature allows the sugars to dissolve more easily into the mixture. I like to leave the butter and milk out on the counter until the butter is soft and the milk is somewhere between kind of cold and room temperature. This will allow for them to mix together very well and get that nice fluffy texture!

Add the Crisco and butter together in a mix master and cream together until fluffy.

Add in the sugar slowly until mixed.

Add in the milk next, very slowly.

Then add the powdered sugar, salt, vanilla extract, and flour.

Beat in the mix master for 15 minutes on a medium speed until nice and fluffy.

Do I need a mix master for this recipe?

Yes! Because of the long time that is has to be mixed, a mix master is a must. The speed and consistency of the mix master will really give this frosting the bakery texture.

What if my frosting does not get fluffy??

If the ingredients do not fluff, leave them set at room temperature and chill the beater in the freezer for 5-10 minutes and then repeat the beating process with the cooled beater.

I topped my Chocolate Zucchini Muffins (which are more like a cupcake!) with this frosting, using just a knife.

Secret Ingredient in whipped bakery frosting!

In a lot of our bakery and dessert recipes my mom loves to add almond extract. She absolutely loves the hint of almond taste it brings to any dessert recipe. So…she adds it to EVERYTHING!..lol So if you too like the almond flavor, or want a hint of something different to this frosting instead of adding all vanilla extract, add 1/2 teaspoon vanilla and 1/2 teaspoon almond extract.
