3-4 medium sized apples, peeled, cored, and diced
1 Tablespoon brown sugar

For the icing:
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 Tablespoon milk
How to make Apple Turnovers
The Heartwarming Apple Filling:
In a saucepan, melt the butter, then combine the diced apples, brown sugar, spices, and lemon juice. Cook them over medium heat until the apples soften slightly. Set it aside to cool.
The Culmination of Flavors:
Preheat your oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. The pastry puff dough I had came with parchment paper underneath it already.
If making your own pastry dough: On a floured surface, roll out the chilled dough to about 1/8-inch thickness.
Cut the dough into 8 squares shapes.
Place a spoonful of the cooled apple filling on one half of each square.
Gently fold the other half of the dough over the filling.
Seal the edges by pressing them together with a fork or your fingers.
A Golden Finish:
Enhance the appearance and texture of your turnovers with a final touch:
Whisk an egg with a tablespoon of milk to create an egg wash.
Brush the tops of the turnovers with the egg wash to achieve a golden, glossy finish.
Make small slits on the tops to allow steam to escape during baking. I added just a sprinkle of pink sea salt to the tops of each one before baking.
Baking Magic:
Place your turnovers on the prepared baking sheet and let them bake for 15-20 minutes, or until they’re beautifully golden and crisp.
A Sweet Culmination:
Once they emerge from the oven, let your apple turnovers cool slightly before indulging. Drizzle over the frosting to elevating their visual appeal.
To make the icing mix together 1/2 cup of powdered sugar and 1 tablespoon milk. You want a nice drizzly consistency, so add more milk if it is too thick.
Make your own pastry dough for Apple Turnovers!
Homemade pastry dough:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
1/2 cup cold water
In a mixing bowl, whisk the flour and salt together. Add the cold butter cubes and work them into the flour using your fingertips or a pastry cutter. The goal is to create pea-sized butter bits within the flour. Drizzle the cold water over the mixture, then gently combine until the dough just comes together. Avoid overworking it; a crumbly texture is alright. Form the dough into a disc, wrap it in plastic, and let it chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
