Homemade lasagna that is baked in three easy layers. Fast to prep, without pre boiling the noodles, this is a weeknight meal that feeds many!
This lasagna is impressive! This is my go to recipe to make when I need to bring dinner to somebody.
It’s also so easy to make! It turns out awesome every time. Oh and did I mention that you do NOT have to boil the noodles beforehand.
I make this with ground turkey but you can use ground beef, or you can get rid of the meat altogether to make this meatless.
This recipe makes a LOT! So feel free to split this recipe in half if you don’t think you will need that much.
In this recipe you will do a layer with 4 ingredients and then repeat it 3 times and then it’s all ready to go in the oven! Super easy, especially when you do not have to boil the noodles! Just put them in the layers, and the sauce will take care of giving them enough moisture to get soft.
If you want to buy the no boil lasagna noodles for this you can, however I have made it with both the no boil and the regular lasagna noodles, and it turns out the same.
Also this recipe calls for 2 pounds of ground beef, this will make it pretty meaty.
I usually only use 1 pound of ground turkey when I make this for my family because I have a budget to keep, so it’s cheaper to use only 1 pound of meat. Or you can really make it cheaper by not adding any meat at all.

Ingredients for Homemade Lasagna
Lasagna Noodles: Regular or no boil lasagna noodles will work in this recipe. No need to pre cook them, just place them in the layers uncooked.
Mozzarella Cheese: Shredded or finely shredded mozzarella cheese is needed for the layers in the lasagna
Cottage Cheese: Regular or non fat cottage cheese are both ok to use. The cottage cheese brings a tangy cheese flavor to the lasagna.
Ground beef or Ground turkey: Both are pre cooked with the sauce added to simmer after cooking and breaking up the meat. The meat is totally optional too, if you want a meatless meal.
Marinara Sauce: 2 big jars are needed, they are the moisture the noodles need to cook.
Egg: Mixed with the cottage cheese, helps keep everything together better so that the layers don’t slide apart.
Oregano: Enhances the flavor of the lasagna.
Parmesan Cheese: Added in just the top layer for another tangy cheese flavor.
How to make Homemade Lasagna
Ok, first we need to brown the ground beef or turkey and drain off fat if necessary.
Add the sauce, and simmer until the sauce is warm.
Take 1 egg and add it to the cottage cheese. This will keep the layers from sliding apart.
Next make sure you have a nice deep pan because we are going to fill it with 3 layers. I use a 13×9 pan and it fills it to the very top, but it fits!
Layering the Homemade Lasagna:
Layer 1
- Noodles
- 1/3 of the Sauce/Meat mixture
- 1/2 of the cottage cheese
- 1/3 of the mozzarella cheese
After you have your first layer down. Repeat that same layer again.
Layer 2
- Noodles
- 1/3 of the Sauce/Meat mixture
- 1/2 of the cottage cheese
- 1/3 of the mozzarella cheese
After the 2nd layer is down, do the 3rd layer like this,
Layer 3
- noodles
- the remaining sauce and meat mixture
- the remaining mozzarella cheese
- parmesan cheese
- oregano
So basically the 3rd layer is the same but without the cottage cheese. Then add the parmesan cheese to the very top along with oregano.
Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour. Cool for 20 minutes, then ENJOY!!
