I recently made this spiced apple cider for our first annual chili cook off party! I made a double batch of this and put it all in a thermos so it would stay hot during the party. Everyone loved it and it was a perfect addition to the fall themed party! Not only was the cider a big hit, but I also won the chili cook off and got to take home the wooden spoon trophy! Believe it or not my White Chicken Chili recipe beat out all the other chili recipes! So yummy and super easy to make you have to try making it yourself!

Ingredients for Spiced Apple Cider
8 cups of apple cider
2-3 cinnamon sticks
6-8 whole cloves
4-6 allspice berries
1 orange, thinly sliced
1 lemon, thinly sliced
1/4 cup of brown sugar (adjust to taste)
1/4 teaspoon of ground nutmeg
Whipped cream (optional)
Cinnamon sticks and orange slices for garnish
How to make Spiced Apple Cider
Pour the Apple Cider: In a large pot, pour in 8 cups of apple cider. Make sure to use fresh, high-quality apple cider for the best flavor.
Add the Spices: Drop in 2-3 cinnamon sticks, 6-8 whole cloves, and 4-6 allspice berries into the cider. These spices will infuse the cider with their warm, aromatic flavors.
Citrus Slices: Thinly slice one orange and one lemon. Add these slices to the pot. The citrus will brighten up the cider with a zesty note.
Sweeten It Up: Stir in 1/4 cup of brown sugar. Adjust the amount to your desired sweetness. You can add more or less sugar based on your preference.
A Touch of Nutmeg: Sprinkle in 1/4 teaspoon of ground nutmeg. This spice will add a subtle, earthy flavor to the cider.
Warm It Up: Place the pot on the stove over medium heat. Slowly bring the mixture to a simmer, stirring occasionally to dissolve the sugar and blend the flavors. Be careful not to boil it, as this can affect the taste.
Simmer and Infuse: Once it’s simmering, reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let the cider simmer for 15-20 minutes. This allows all the flavors to meld together beautifully.
Strain the Cider: I chose to strain my cider through a fine mesh strainer before serving it. You don’t have to but it is an option, especially if you there are any lemon or orange seeds in it.
Serve and Garnish: Ladle the spiced cider into mugs or glasses. If desired, top each serving with a dollop of whipped cream and garnish with a cinnamon stick and an orange slice.
Enjoy: Sip slowly and savor the warm, comforting flavors of your homemade spiced cider. It’s perfect for sipping by the fireplace or sharing with friends and family during the holidays.
Option to Add Alcohol: If you would like to make this drink alcoholic, add 1 cup dark rum or bourbon, according to your taste. Add 1/2 a cup if you want to make it not as strong, and add 1 cup for a stronger drink.
